For the season of Lent, I share a poem and an essay about practicing mindfulness.

Psalm 8
3When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
Practicing Mindfulness of
His Glory During Lent
Who I am that He is mindful of Me?
He lives in mindfulness of me.
He loves me beyond compare.
A mere human compared to a glorious Savior.
It is so amazing as the song says.
He knew me from the beginning. He loves me and is mindful of me.
Why can’t I live in a state of mindfulness of Him?
The days crowd in and I am so busy, busy, busy.
Mindfulness to Him comes so easily, so great is His love.
I live in the Garden of Gethsemane.
I hear His voice in my sleep.
““So, could you not watch with me one hour?”
To practice mindfulness
Stay alert
Listen for His Glorious Voice
Listen to His Callings
I come to His feet
Wipe them with my tears
I am not deserving of His mindfulness, love
Let me stay awake
Awake in the hour
of His Despair
Don’t let me abandon Him
He sacrificed for me
This Holy Season
The Holy Season of Lent focuses our minds on sacrifice and forgiveness. We remember Him wondering in a wilderness, fasting for us. He served three and a half years preaching and spreading His message of salvation and love to all whom would follow Him. Then, He went willing to the Cross for me.
He gave of himself physically, spiritually, and emotionally. He suffered through it all for me.
Selfishly, I worry about the day to day: bills, school for my daughter, my husband’s work, car problems, health issues. The here and now.
He viewed eternity from atop His cross. His life lived to die. He exemplified forgiveness, love, and compassion. He knew my humanity and weakness. He knew my failures, but He shed His blood for me anyway. Why?

You found the perfect song to go with Psalm 8, which we both chose to focus our thoughts. 🙂
Thank you everyone. I am so grateful for all the kind comments.

Mary, the song you chose is a great closing for the evening. I need to contemplate why I sometimes stray from staying up with Him during Lent when my eyes should be on Him, believing in His Presence.

Thanks of this reminder to practice mindfulness of His glory. It’s a challenge in our busy lives to listen for His glorious voice, but when we do . . . our lives are blessed.
He knew me from the beginning.
I love that.
Thank you!
God sent his only begotten son to die for your sins. Not something to ever be forgotten yet the day to day things often take over our thoughts. Hi Mary.

Blessings to you!
Beautiful words. A wonderful reminder of keeping Him as our perspective! Thank you!
May, my husband and I just read this Psalm two nights ago and love the whole Psalm so much. This verse sticks out for me as I am always amazed that He is mindful of me…ME! How blessed we are and what a lesson to take away…that we should WANT to be mindful of Him and in all those ways.
Thank you so very much for connecting mindfulness with Jesus’ request that we stay watchful. The image of the Garden of Gethsemane is a powerful lead-in to upcoming Holy/Passion Week and the joy that is ours to respond to the Savior’s request for our companionship as He suffers and dies for us. Thank you! God bless you!
