I Believe In God’s Blessings

July 9, 2015 By Mary Hill 15 Comments

PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW

I remember a terrible time in my life. I had lost my job and the whole community knew of my downfall.  Ashamed, I did not know how I was going to pay rent or buy food.

My pastor and church knew of my situation. I didn’t ask for anything. I didn’t tell anyone. It was the Sunday after my firing, I went to church, clinging to Him. He was my only hope. My rent due the next day. I didn’t have the funds. I had about $30 in my pocket to buy some groceries and then my money was gone.

We worshiped and sang such beautiful songs in the 1990s. I raised my hands in praise. I really had this feeling of God just coming in and taking up residence. We were singing the “My Help Comes From the Lord.”

After the singing, my pastor announced a special offering for a family in need.  “A family.” My heart heard a family, maybe kids. He said the need was real and pressing. They passed the offering plate. I took out my wallet and put $1o in the plate. I figured I needed another $320 to make rent anyway.

Later, my small group leader said the pastor needed to talk to me.  I followed him to the back.  He smiled at me and seemed to be bouncing with joy.

You probably have figured out. My late husband and I were the family in need. They gave me a check for $535. I paid rent for the month and had money to stock my refrigerator plus pay for gas. I pulled my friend aside.

“When he said family, I thought he meant someone else, maybe someone with kids. I gave $10 to this offering.” Tears filled my eyes. I felt so blessed.  Twenty years later, remarried after losing my husband to violence and a break down which lead to abuse, I look back and see so many blessings that filled and continue to fill my life!

God’s blessings rain all around.

They flood my life with such regularity.

He blesses me in my home

He blesses me in my family.

He blesses me in my writing life.

How we see these blessings varies.

[tweetthis]Sometimes, we get caught up in life and happenings, we don’t realize the depth of blessings occurring in our lives.[/tweetthis]

We don’t see Him at work in our lives, blessing us.

Despite my outward circumstances, I truly believe He is blessing me.

My car can break down; your child rant with disrespect; my husband’s health decline. None of these matters, because He is blessing me, daily, right now at this very moment.

You can believe in His blessings in your life for these main reasons:

  1. He has great plans for you:  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11
  2. Simply because He loves you: “A blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you.”  Deuteronomy 23:5
  3. He died for you. Did you know that God’s blessing us begin with the Gospel. Jesus ultimate sacrifice blessed us eternally. When you accept this blessing, you open a flood gate of blessings you never dreamed possible.
  4. You and I are blessed because we are forgiven: “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and who sins have been covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account”  (Romans 4:3-8).
  5. You and I can never do anything to merit God’s blessings. He blesses simply because we have accepted Him and belong to Him.
  6. Our blessing can grow when we seek to bless others. Blessings grow larger the more we bless those around us. It is the miracle of sowing seed and reaping harvests sometimes that we don’t even plan for. I love these verses that emphasize this point.

Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Second Corinthians 2:8-9 “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.’”

God is waiting to show you great blessings beyond your imaginations. Open your heart, accept Him, and let Him bless you!  How are you blessed? Share in the comments.

Mary, what a wonderful story and I had a feeling when the pastor said family, he was speaking of you and your husband. Does totally prove what I already knew that god does work in mysterious and wonderful ways so often. Thanks for sharing 🙂

I love the truth in this post, and I also love the fact that in your need you gave, not knowing you would be reaping the benefit! So happy to be your neighbor at Holley’s.
