Did you ever wonder where the phrase, “go big or go home” comes from? Well, with a little research at Answers.com, I found that the use of the phrase “go big or go home” may have started on the shores of California among surfers facing the big waves, and then in the 1990s, it was used as a business slogan to sale Harley Davidson exhaust pipes known as a “Porker Pipes.”
Today, the phrase has been used by millionaires in relation to mega million dollar deals or by athletes facing the big game of their lives. It is a catch all phrase for putting fear aside and trying big things and taking big risks. We all need this saying in our arsenal when facing hard times, tough choices, or life changing decisions.
I don’t have any facing me right now. I am just making small goals and taking one step at a time toward an ultimate goal. I am not in a guts and glory phase at the moment. I guess that guts and glory and all or nothing outlook has not been my strategy toward life. I take risks, but I have a “plan B” on the back burner if things don’t work out the way I wanted them to. What about you? How do you face challenges and major decisions: are you a strategic planner or do you just go for the big dream all out hoping to hit it big?
Hi, Purple Dreamer and Medeia. I really enjoy the feedback. Thank you for your comments.
Wow! That’s kind of neat to know. I’m with you on the whole one day at a time movement – small steps eventually will add up to the “big home” you know? 🙂
Although I have big goals in mind, I believe in breaking things down in smaller goals.
