Five Minute Friday



Can you believe it is another Friday? The first Friday in October. The leaves are changing colors, and time is flying. It is once time for Five Minute Friday where a community gathers every Friday to write about one word chosen by Lisa Jo Baker, founder of the Five Minute Friday.

It is simple really: write for just five minutes about the word. You are not allowed to back up and make corrections. Just let your typing keys fly and let your imaginations soar. After you have written for the five minutes, you then go to her Five Minute Friday site and link up.  One other major rule: you must comment on the person’s blog post before yours and after yours on the link up. You can read more posts and comment too.
Okay this weeks word: Write

Dear God:

Help me to write today. Guide my fingers over the key to write the words you want put on the computer screen. 

Life is a challenge and sometimes we writers feel like pushing words out is so hard. We hit this brick in our lives and want to quit.  We almost do not go to Lisa Jo’s site or other blogs. We just want to stay in bed, but we can’t we have to get up and face the world: one word at a time.

Writing words is a powerful thing.  God has equated His words as himself. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God.  So the words we say, the words we write; they are us.  They make up who we are. 

Writing words is time consuming and hard thing sometimes. We don’t know what to write. We don’t know the right words to write or say.  

We just stare at the screen hoping something will come that will inspire others. Hoping, our words will make a difference somehow.  Hoping that by hoping our words make a difference we are not being too egotistical.

But if God can say His words are him; then my words are me. They are my essence. Your words are you.  Powerful concept.  What words are you writing? Are you thinking on the good things, the things that are pure and honorable?  Are you encouraging others with your words or are you beating others down?

Words can heal; word can bring happiness; and words can bring peace. Words can bring us closer to God.

Theme: Blogavesary
 
I did not know much about blogging on January 30th of this year. I just decided one morning that I was going to try to write a blog.  The only knowledge I had of blogging involved the episode of House where this woman who is sick and dying can’t give up her blog so she sits in her hospital bed and blogs while they try to save her life.  Then there was the movie Julia and Julie. She decided to blog everyday for a whole year cooking one recipe from Julia Child’s cookbook.
 
I sat down at the screen and signed up for Blogger. The title of that first blog: Mary-andering Thoughts and Issues. About a month later, I wanted to be more creative and inspirational and decided to launch a second blog: Mar-andering Creatively. I posted my first article here entitled Young Adult literature trends on February 7. No one commented. I waited and waited.  At the end of February, I tried again with a simple post about goals.  No comments. I met Arlee Bird and signed up for Blogher in March. March and April things begin to turn around and my blogs begin to grow. In April, I signed up for the Blogging AtoZ Challenge because of Arlee’s encouragement.  As they say, the rest is blog history. I love blogging and belonging to an international community.

Finish the Sentence Friday

Sentence:  The hardest choice I have ever had to make was to flee an abusive relationship….

I have touched upon this in another post and had another article posted on Lovett Publishing House’s website for October’s National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Here is the post: 
So many women are faced with this decision everyday. Do I take the children and run?  Do I leave everything behind?  I got to a point where I could not take one more punch or put down and I fled.  It is a hard choice, and it takes bravery.

  5. I love that you are also apart of the October Daily challenge, too and having so much fun with the prompts, as well. I truly didn’t know how you started out, but I am so with you on loving the blogging community also. I am not sure I remember what it was like before I was blogger and am so happy that I made the decision to blog, too. That said thank you as always for linking up with us Mary!! 🙂

  7. I left too. It was a hard decision, but I make the right one. For me and for my son. I’ve not looked back.
