Five Minute Friday: Willing

March 8, 2014 By Mary Hill 8 Comments

It is Five Minute Friday time again. Where does the time fly? Is there a time bank somewhere that captures our moments?  I sit here on a Friday afternoon listening to the giggling of my daughter and her friend as I contemplate today’s word for Five Minute Friday: Willing.

Five Minute Friday is the brainchild of Lisa-Jo Baker. Every Friday afternoon women from all over gather virtually to write for just five minutes on one word.  Today’s word is willing.

I am also continuing my Slice of Life 30 Day Challenge with Two Writing Teachers. This is a real challenge combining two hops.  And now it is close to midnight and I have come back to tackle the challenges.

11:20 p.m.

I sit out a lot of challenges. I am not willing to take the chance, to get my feet dirty.  I am scared that life will throw me another curveball and I will fail. Fail as a mother, wife, sister, family member. Let people down.

The day was long and I am taking this medication that makes me sleep and makes my concentration take a vacation. How am I going to meet challenges even if I am willing?

I drag through the day and it melts away to nothingness and failure looms up ahead.  I have to cry out to God. I can’t walk on water, Lord I can’t even walk another step.

Peter at least stepped out of the boat. I would cling for dear life in fear of drowning.  But what does my lack of willingness cost? Could it cost my daughter not to take chances?  Could it cause a life not pointed to God?

Lord, I need to be willing to take chances, to move beyond myself. To climb, to strive, to dream.  You are my Lord and with you, nothing is impossible as long as I am willing.

11:26 p.m.

We are so fortunate to have a God who can carry us when we can no longer carry ourselves. Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. May he continue to give you strength in your struggles and may you continue to praise him for his goodness.

Your post is interesting and soul searching. I understand your concerns as there are times I go through similar worries, but always console myelf that things will be brighter, as I plan changes in my life to remove doubts and other blocks in my life. I must remember to join you on these Friday 5 Minute posts.

    Mary,
I love the blog design. How did you get your cursor to be a flower? That’s adorable. Thanks for taking the time to expand on your “willingness” to take on the challenges…always remember, that in failing we learn too. So my take-away is this self-committed adventure of slicing for the month is as much about completing the challenge as it is about growing yourself as a writer. So even if you can’t meet the challenge every day, you can still grow as a writer, thus learning…good luck and I think you’ve done well taking the first step to try the challenge-you were “willing”.

Hi, my designer from Charming Blog Designs put the flower on my blog for me. She is great. Check out her link in my right hand column to her site. I appreciate your encouraging comments.:)

Wow. Lots to think about here. What are the consequences for me not being willing to do something? Thank you for this post. I needed to read it. May God bless you and cause you to be willing to obey Him in all that He asks you to do. Popping over from FMF.
