Fear

June 19, 2015 By Mary Hill 16 Comments

Picture of my husband who is participating in the No Shave November campaign.

My husband is participated in the American Cancer Society’s No Shave November.

“When I am afraid, I will trust in You.” ~ Psalm 56:3

I am sitting in the hospital emergency room with my husband.  He is in pain. I am full of fear. This week has been a roller coaster.  My husband complaining about chest,  stomach,  and back pain. All kind of images are running through my mind.

Life is precious. Fear can rob you of laughter and joy. It is winning right now. I was supposed to write about laughter Thursday for Spiritual  Journeys but given the headlines yesterday with nine gunned down by an evil terrorist I could not write. Now this is trying my faith and fear is winning.

Update:  Fear did not win this time. I gave in for a while, but my faith restored when I just accepted God had this. My husband’s test came back negative for major illnesses. The doctor said only two things could be causing his pain now: an ulcer. Our next step is to go to a GI specialist for a endoscopy.

For now, the fear has abated, and I am so grateful because I know that I had many people praying for us yesterday. Your prayers were answered. Thank you.

It is so easy to be afraid of the unknown. I hope they find the cause of your husband’s pain and he is on the mend quickly!

Christina, they have ruled out all of the serious stuff; so, I am feeling less fearful. Just wish he was feeling better.

Prayers for your husband, Mary. Many times I’ve felt that fear. Giving it up to God is the road to peace.

I’m so glad your husband is feeling better, Mary! I remember a phone call at work when I was 8 months pregnant with our second daughter. Hubby was in so much pain he could not get off the floor (and that with a 2-year old at home). I was so scared I can’t tell you, but luckily it turned out to be “just” kidney stones. Incredibly painful but easy to treat. He had them again 2 years later and luckily that time we knew what to do when the pain first started. Hoping that your husband is going to be 100% again soon!

Fear can be a very good thing. It sharpens the senses and makes us alert. It’s when fear is overtaking our lives permanently when it becomes a problem.

Hope you have a very good week ahead of you, Mary!

i know that fear it cripples and destroys everything that I try to hold on tight to…it visits and takes over the couch and won’t leave…sometime it goes out for a walk and you wonder can breathe now…no it’ll be back i say to myself; but I’ve heard so many people say what you said in the last two weeks give it to God not directed at me but statements on FB or IG reminding themselves that they have that choice – why i ask myself, why should I and why has that comment been ear shot away for the past two weeks… i know it’s something I need to listen to…. but for now I am sending to you my prayers and good positive wishes; you hang in there.

I’ve sat in ICC unit with our son. I know the fear you were feeling, and I know the strength of prayers. I learned when a mom can’t put one foot in front of the other God will help me. I am thankful for the good news for your husband and I will add him to my prayer list as the other tests and his recuperation continues.

Oh, Mary! I’m so sorry to hear about your husband. Father God, I lift Mary and her husband up to you. Let them know the width and breadth of your love and squeeze out their fears and fill them with faith and assurance in you. I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Fear can so easily sneak in and begin winning. I understand that. Prayers that you get answers soon and that fear is no longer winning. Stopping by from FMF where I am #8.
