I sit at a silent and empty intersection
Waiting for the change of light
Wondering which will be my next action?
I could take one direction like to my right
It would lead to a megalopolis of dreams of futility
or dreams of laughter, art and fun?
I could take the direction to my left
It would lead to a rural region of fields and plenty
Or a region of hopeless hunger and rejection?
Which road to take, which road to take.
I could stay on the road of safety upon which I travel
But where would it lead me?
Distractions are easy to find on the side roads.
Even if I decided I would still wander and wonder
Did I take the right road, make the right decision?
Oh, what if I had gone to the big city?
What if I had stayed straight and forged on without a backward glance?
What if I had taken the right to beauty of scenery or harsh loneliness?
I should give my wheel to someone who knows better than I
Who will lead me in a direction that is best for me?
I surrender to His direction so that I avoid futility, harshness, or loneliness.
He will guide me on the right path.
Bible Verse:
Job 23:10
But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

We never know what might have been had we chosen another path. I think that’s just as well;-)
Ah yes…life’s many choices! Choices made easier when trusting in God’s guidance and wisdom! Easy to get distracted if we try to do it ourselves!! Great poem, Mary! 🙂
