Decisions decisions … Pain Makes Them Harder To Face

March 28, 2013 By Mary Hill 8 Comments

Rambam said, “The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision.” Would you rather be in a state of indecision or accepting the consequences of a wrong decision?

Decisions, decisions. I am sometimes scared to make them. I guess this is human. We all come up against a decision and don’t know which way to go. Decisions are even harder for me. I suffer from degenerative poly-arthritis and depression caused by pain; so, decisions look like this big wall. My arthritis is considered an autoimmune or systemic arthritis because the disease attacks my immune system which causes the inflammation.

If you don’t deal with pain daily, you probably don’t realize the difficulties we who do face.  It is hard to make a decision when you hurt.  You don’t know when you are going to stop hurting, and that depresses me. Depression makes decision making even harder.
When you are in severe, daily pain it is difficult to complete any activity.  I try my best to post, but as you can see I miss days.  Writing is the only thing I have left. I can’t perform physically anymore. I wish I could return to newspaper work again, but that requires a big time commitment and good health.  You can’t miss deadlines and news editors frown if you miss an important story just because you were sick.  Being scooped is a major failure for a reporter.  I would also have problems deciding which story would be the most important to focus on.

Do you know the complexities of pain and understand why we need help and not looked down upon?  Pain is terrible and crippling.  If you know someone who suffers, please give them your support and love. I know first hand how this helps.  I feel like the spokesperson for pain sufferers sometimes.

How horrendous for you. I understand only too well the problem with decision making. I do not suffer from pain necessarily but sinus migraines or just being sick makes decision making almost impossible. I hope you can find a way to reduce the level of pain.

Love the walk a day idea. It is on my list as soon as weather warms up. 🙂

Severe daily pain is horrible but depression is even worse. Depression also worsens pain, so finding a way to aleviate depression will also help your pain. I have found this out through experience. I am not sure what your limitatons are. But I have found for me, getting out in the sunlight helps a lot. Over the winter if you live in a cold climate, using a special light and adding vitamin D is also helpful. Exercise even if just 15-20 minutes of walking a day also helps my depression. Never give up and try alternatives for your pain and depression.

Thank you for posting this. As someone who does suffer on a daily basis I totally relate. I’m sorry you are having to deal with it as well. I hope one day all of us will get the kind of relief we deserve.
