A Tree Grows in the Heart

Five Minute Friday

It is Five Minute Friday and the drill is simple. Write for five minutes without backing up or editing. Then link up at Lisa Jo Baker’s site to share your five minute essays. Then you read the posts of the writers before and after your post.

We used to have two trees in our front yard.  Storms took them out over the years.  Now our yard sits bare of trees. I miss those trees.  I miss the bright red leaves in the fall that used to fill our yard. We would rake them up into piles and jump in. Our yard filled with laughter and gigles as we tossed the leaves in to the air and they landed in our hair.

Trees are so much a part of  Fall. Their leaves change colors, and they are at their must beautiful, just before they fall off and die. The trees go to sleep for their winter slumber. It is a rest until the spring when they come a live again with little buds forming. Some trees flower and some grow bright new green leaves.

We can learn a lot from trees. They are silent sentinnels that provide beauty and crucial, life-giving oxygen. They stand tall and beautiful through storms and drought. Our God takes care of them. They seem so insignificant, but they are lifegivers, beautiful heart warmers, and a perfect creation from a perfect God. Their existence brings joy and praise to my heart.

I started this yesterday with one sentence, but had to go the doctor. I walk up this morning feeling stiff as tree. My arthritis and pain has stalled me some this week, but I am going to move on and focus on the gift of love and life God has given me.  We all have to cope with illness of some kind in our life, but we don’t have to let it define us. We can stand tall and move on, knowing God has us in hand and will provide us with the strength that we need.

I go to post this on a Saturday morning,  God is good and I know He will use this writing for His purposes.

We have only two tiny trees in our yard. My daughter sends me pictures of the fall foliage around Nashville, how I miss trees and the way they define the seasons!

    Dear Mary,

I really enjoyed the thoughts you’ve shared, and your photos… They stir up vivid pictures of my own happy moments with trees!

So many nuggets here that leap off the page… Beauty amidst weakness, slumber and rebirth, strength in the storms of life. Reminding us that, in Christ, no matter our pain and stiffness, we are “oaks of righteousness” rooted deeply in the One Who loves and redeems us.

May you find continued healing in Him, my friend…

Your grateful neighbor at Five Minute Friday,
    HBHW
