A to Z in the News — May our Prayers Bring God’s Quiet and Love

This week has flown. My eyes have been on the news and disasters, both created naturally and by man’s polluted spirit.  Quiet is not a word to associate with this week at all.

Chicago flooding leads to sinkhole

The news has been all about disasters this week. Natural disasters of flooding are beginning to hit states like Indiana. Chicago residents are begin rescued from their homes and from cars this morning because of flooding.

I watch with growing worry as Texas deals with its own disaster. Firefighers and emergency workers rush to their deaths heroically to rescue others in a fire and then an explosion claims lives. The explosion had the same force as a 2.1 magnitude earth quake. The mayor of the small Texas town was on NBC this morning in tears talking about two brothers who died trying to save lives. They were volunteer firefighters.

Then I see the pollution of the human spirit continue. FBI agents allegedly zero in on a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings. He allegedly had explosives strapped to his body and dies in a shot out with law enforcement.

At the same time, we watch the continuing threat from North Korea, the wars, and the spirit of hatred spread. In them midst of the conflict comes prayer.

This week has shown our need for prayer: prayer for peace and quiet of God.  We need His intervention and love.  When chaos reigns, the human spirit can overcome.  We have the potential in ourselves to rise above and help one another.  We have purity of heart and spirit.  We have love for our neighbors both locally and worldwide.
