Trying to Capture a Photo of Beautiful Hawk
I sat at my kitchen window yesterday afternoon frantically trying to capture a picture of a hawk. It was a large red tail hawk that sat on the fence next to our building in back. It just sat with its beautiful eyes fixated on my little dog, Lilly, who barked at it frantically. I could see its sharp talons and beak but not its eyes. I fumbled with my camera trying to quickly snap a picture, but I failed as the large bird lifted off and took to the sky.

I kept my camera on the kitchen cabinet waiting just in case the hawk came back. I can’t believe that I could not capture a picture of a such a large bird that sat less than 18 feet away from me.
I have a group of chickadees that come everyday too to feed our my bird feeder. I try to sneak up on them but as soon as I get to the window off they fly.
Birds are beautiful but so elusive. I am only able to get a clear, close up picture once and awhile.
I feed these beautiful creatures everyday, throwing bird seed into the yard and filling up my feeder. I had dozens of birds in the yard the other day, but was charging my camera at the time.
They did not come yesterday at all. I think the hawk kept them scared away.
I know they don’t need me to feed them, but I do because I just love watching them.

Do you have pictures of birds at your birdfeeders? How do you capture clearer images? I would love some tips.
Your post makes me want spring to come! We have bunnies that come around, much like you have your birds. I loved your phrasing about fumbling your camera and getting set too late. Really well put. I, sadly, have no tips for you other than keep a camera with you and snap as many pictures as you can. Surely one will turn out!

I keep a camera on my kitchen table to have it handy for a good shot. But…I like you, too often have the blurred tail end of a bird. I have a few pictures though…one of a robin taking a bath in the bird bath. I put the camera on rapid snap shots…or whatever it is called…where it takes a lot of pictures in a row…and sometimes one of the pictures comes out. Keep trying…and post more pictures. I have that setting too. I will try to keep my camera on it and see what happens. Thanks for the tips.
Birds are my biggest irrational fear. LOL! No bird feeders here, but I have captured some pictures of hawks at my parents place out in the country from a distance with my telephoto lens. Like I said, irrational fear. I probably took about 50 pictures of one hawk to get 3 decent shots of it. Just keep your camera ready/handy and be ready to snap. Best wishes to you!
