10 Things Thankful: Father’s Day Edition

June 15, 2014 By Mary Hill 3 Comments

By Mary Hill

I am so thankful for the fathers in my life. My late father and my husband who is a wonderful father to his children and great grandfather to his three grands.
My father died in May 1999. He suffered a massive heart attack.  His life was hard as he suffered from bipolar depression, but despite his sufferings and the trauma the disease caused my family, I know my father loved me and my siblings. He did his best to serve the Lord and be a good father.

Now, the main father figure in my life is my husband. He has four children, three from a prior marriage and our daughter.

I am thankful that he continues the legacy of following Christ and raising his children in church. His son is a pastor and our daughters sing in the choir and perform solos.   He makes reading devotional with our daughter a priority.

He works hard for his children and provides so much love and security. He sets a great example for them that hard work, honesty, and love is what we need to succeed in this world. He places God first in our family.

Tomorrow, we are going to celebrate with dinner and going to see a movie with kids and grands. I am so excited.

One more important father figure to mention is my mom’s current husband. He has four children too just like my dad had. He now is the step father to my grown brothers, sister, and me.  I appreciate his love and support. He is handy man and has helped us in some many ways through the years, including helping us with car repairs and renovations.

Fathers are so important. They can bring love, sacrifice, hope, faith, encouragement, and so much to the lives of their children. The father figures in my life have brought all of these things and more! I hope everyone has a wonderful Father’s Day celebration!
