10 Things of Thankful

April 28, 2014 By Mary Hill 8 Comments

By  Mary Hill,

I have been absent for the last weeks because of a combination of issues: health being at the forefront. My illness is gone now; so, I am very thankful to be able to write tonight. I hope that I will stay well this time for a little longer than last.

In the meantime, I wrote my 10 Things of Thankful this morning long hand before church started.  I wanted to make sure I posted tonight after church. I was able to write them pretty quickly because I have so much to be thankful for this week.

I am thankful that this month i had the privilege to draw closer to Christ as I explored my relationship with Him as part of the month-long April A to Z Blogging Challenge. I have been able to keep up with the challenge, except for this weekend. I have two posts set for Monday to make up my missed days.

The reason I am behind is because we were on our 12th anniversary trip this weekend. We went to the Columbia/Lexington South Carolina area for a quick trip. My daughter stayed with her best friend who was with her dad this weekend.

Our hotel was grand and turned out to be the best hotel in the area. We stayed at the Comfort Inn Suites in Lexington, SC. If you are in the Columbia, Lexington area, this is simply the best hotel in the area for the money.

The lovely desk clerk really set the stage for our great visit. When I told her it was our anniversary trip, she offered us a suite with a Jacuzzi at a discounted rate.  The room was beautiful.

Our weekend would have been great just there, but then we decided to go to the USC Gamecocks baseball game. The Gamecocks won over Alabama by a score of 9 to 3. I felt like a little kid when I got to see our mascot Cocky. We took a picture together.

Then we went for an after game dessert at Ruth’s Chris Prime Steakhouse.

I attended a wonderful church service today. Our son and pastor announced that he and the church leadership will go to the bank this week to close on a loan to build a 400-seat church. The news comes as our church celebrate its 50th birthday next week, and our son celebrates the beginning of his fifth year as pastor. Five years ago the church was about to close its door because there were only eight members. God has worked miracles and changed lives. Hundreds of people have accepted Christ as their savior including one today!

Great news about the growth of your church! I’m a pastor’s wife (for over 30 years) and I love to hear about churches growing and thriving! Stopping by from the #tribedare!

8 members 5 years ago and now you are building a new sanctuary? God is shining His face upon your son’s work and the membership there. Amazing.

Happy 12th anniversary, Mary! It sounds like you two had a lovely time at the hotel, with the whirlpool, and the chocolate cake too. 🙂

Glad you are feeling better now too,

Glad you’re feeling better. Great news about how much your church has grown! We just opened our new church last year and it has been such a blessing.

You can blame me. On a scale of one to ten, I am actively dying from strep throat. I kid. I kid. Being sick is the pits but I’m glad that you’re back on your feet.
Isn’t it wonderful when people are kind like that…to offer you an upgraded room? There is still good in this world.
I have to ask, did you measure that cake? Cause that looks like it needs to be shared…and I’m all the way over here but I can wait…
PS. The flower curser is absolutely cute.

Yes, it was almost six inches tall and four to five inches wide. Huge. We could have shared with six to seven people. We ate about 1/8 of it. Such a waste. We could not eat more than that because it was rich and delicious and so filling.

Glad you are feeling better and that you were still able to enjoy a lovely anniversary. That dessert looks incredible!

Yay for your anniversary and son! Not so yay on the sickness. Here’s hoping your health holds and this upcoming week is as amazing as the last.
