10 Things of Thankful as the Christmas Holiday Begins

December 9, 2013 By Mary Hill 12 Comments

Ten Things of Thankful

By Mary Hill

I know I am extremely late, but I had a bad health weekend. My daughter was sick, and now I have caught a winter bug too.  I will be quick and comment on everyone else’s posts.

1.  I did not get to decorate my tree. I had hoped to have a tree decorating party with my kids this weekend, but it will happen tomorrow night. See something I can be very thankful for.

2.  I received some free and pretty Christmas decorations from sister-in-law.  See the pretty poinsetta arrangement.

3.  I am really thankful for this past Christmas cat decoration that my mother gave me.

4.  I am thankful for God provision when my income was cut in half.  I miss my husband a lot because he is getting overtime, but it came at a time when we needed it the most.

5.  I am thankful that my cold is not anything more serious other than just an annoyance.

6.  My daughter had a Family Tree project for school; so being the over achiever that I am I signed on Ancestry.com to search for my relatives. My brother had started a family tree on which I began to build. I traced my family back to Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. Here is a picture of my family’s old house:

6.  My daughter performed in the Christmas play at church. It was really cute. She played Mary. I will post a video of her solo later.

7.  We will be having lots of parties in the next few weeks. We have a busy week this week. My husband’s work party is Tuesday, and my daughter has a Christmas skating party with the Children’s Choir.

8.  I got to keep Seth today, my little grandson.  My daughter-in-laws parents came to visit and have a special dinner away with her in Greenville.  We kept Seth so that they could have special times together. Then her parents spent time with their grandson too.

9.  We had a gathering at our local Mexican restaurant with the inlaws and family tonight after the Christmas program that my daughter was in. It was fun.

10.  A wonderful Christmas season to concentrate on Christ and His love for me and the world. He came as a baby just to make the ultimate sacrifice for mankind.

God Bless and Peace to everyone.

I hope you are feeling better soon. It’s great having the time with your grandson, those are definitely moments to be thankful for. They grow up so fast.

What a find, getting to see the house your ancestors lived in! I’ve never been on that site, but my dad has. I am fascinated by the stories of people who lived long ago, especially those of my relatives.
We didn’t get to decorate our tree, either. It’s on the schedule for tonight.
I hope you feel better real quick so you can enjoy all the fun things you have coming up.

Hope you feel better soon Mary. It seems like you have lots of exciting things planned for Christmas, and have already enjoyed some good ones. The play sounds very cute, that your daughter was in. And YAY for you spending time with Seth 🙂

Forgot to mention that I am totally loving that silver pinecone garland! When I was young my mother used to make little Christmas trees and wreaths fashioned from pinecones and then painted gold. I wish I had one of those now, they were beautiful! Good memories!

I am sorry to hear you have a cold, they are no fun at all, but certainly it hasn’t dampened your Christmas spirit as you look forward to decorating and celebrating with friends and family. I hope you feel much better soon, so that you can enjoy this special time to the utmost. The supreme gift of love… what an awesome gift the Christ child was!
