10 Things of Thankful About My Daughter

October 26, 2013 By Mary Hill 23 Comments

Ten Things of Thankful

By Mary Hill

My Katie Rose will be 11 on Monday. Where did the time go? I remember holding her as a little baby. Then she was suddenly five.

I am thankful for her:

  1. Laughter. She can brighten up a room with her smile.

2. Her smarts and love for reading and learning.

3.  For her wonderful sense of humor.
4.  Her love of animals.
6. Her compassion and love for others.

Her nephew and niece at Halloween last year.

Katie Rose with her niece
when she was baby.

7.  Her talents and giving spirit.

8.   Her love for God.

9.  Her everything. She is my reason for living and breathing. God gave me the greatest gift the day she was born.

10.  I am looking forward, God willing, to many more years of love, laughter, and sweetness.  She is about to enter those teen years, but I know with the grace of God, we will see them through.  If it His will, she will grow into a beautiful, young woman who is going to bless many with her testimony of love.  I remember the day she made Jesus her friend. She talked with my Renae, my step-son’s wife at church.  He was so excited that night that she had made her decision that he openly wept in his pulpit when he announced her decision to the church. I did too.  Then she later told me, “Mom, I am going to sing for Jesus so that others can know about His love like I do.”

One day, even years earlier we were in Hendersonville for a fall trip. She was only four and she walked up to a lady as we were going into a restaurant.  Before I knew what she was doing, she asked the lady, “Do you know my best friend, Jesus. He will be your friend to if you ask Him.”

Her faith is an inspiration to me daily.

She joined in a pageant in May for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in memory of her grandparents, my husband’s parents. She never met them but still wanted to take part in a cause in their memory. Cancer took both of them before she was born and before I married her father.

Happy Birthday, my Katie Rose. You’re the reason I love roses so much. πŸ™‚

What a great tribute to your beautiful daughter. The teenage years … I remember them well as both my daughters took different paths during them. Sounds like yours is definitely on the right one. I hope, for both your and her benefit, she doesn’t stray far during the years ahead. Really a good post!

I know. I am going to have to make a day of it scanning her baby pictures. She is so relieved I didn’t have a digital that first year or two or her photos would have been everywhere. She has an instagram and her own blog too though so she is not shy about putting up her photos for friends to see.

My father also lost both his parents to cancer as well. I was in my teens and it was sad because I never got to know either of them very well because they lived far away. Your daughter is a real treasure and it’s amazing she is so confident in her belief and I wish you both all the best.

She seems like such a sweet, happy girl. I hope she has a gorgeous birthday. I can quite see why she takes up all of your Ten, and suspect she could take up several weeksworth πŸ™‚
